Celebrity Solstice exceeded my expectations!
- 1/2010
I honestly did not know how I would enjoy sailing on what I consider to be a "big ship". Solstice exceeded my expectations. The ship is simply beautiful. The public spaces, restaurants...are stunning. There is a casual elegance that makes one feel instantly at home and "happy." The ship is configured in such a manner that one does not feel as if one is on a megaship...there are so many intimate spaces. I loved sitting at the martini bar each night before dinner. The bartenders delighted the bars guests with all sorts of antics--twirling shakers--and mixing up all sorts of tasty adult beverages! The food was excellent--high quality--and served with style and grace. Loved the different dining options. The staterooms are well appointed--room stewards did an excellent job during the entire cruise. Activities were varied. Something for everyone. Great for extended families, couples, honeymooners. The truth of the matter is that I would recommend this ship to my most discerning clients--those which prefer
Pros: excellent food, well appointed staterooms, something for everyone

Solstice is truly a beautiful ship
- 1/2010
If you want an exciting experience take the Celebrity Solstice with 5 of your best girl friends as I did or with your family as this ship has something wonderful for everyone.
The Celebrity Solstice is truly a beautiful ship. It is modern, open and the accommodations are among the best at sea. The standard stateroom is huge and the suites are so large on could live aboard indefinitely.
On this beautiful ship are several restaurants in addition to the dining room. The Bistro at 5 was our favorite spot for both lunch and late night desserts. The salads were wonderful, fresh and tasty as were their Panini's. And the desserts - WOW. The Tuscan Grille was truly a 5 star restaurant and an awesome dining experience. It is appointed beautifully and the chef frequently stopped by the table to ensure our satisfaction with evening faire.
If you like sushi or Asian, Silk Harvest is the place for you. It is a wonderful mix of tranquility and Asian style.
The Solstice staff was excellent. Aside from being warm and friendly they were knowledgeable and helpful. There are hostesses for the suites, as well as butlers.
The Solstice also has a fully beauty salon, gym and spa. Special spa cuisine is available for those that book their spa program. The massages were wonderful and left you feeling pampered and relaxed.
While taking a cruise is usually a great vacation, the solstice class insures the "Best of the Best". No matter what you want in a vacation, solstice class has something to offer everyone from the experienced traveler to the young and old alike - and if you just need to get away - this is the vactation for you, a total relaxing and pampering experience as you see the world.
Pros: large suites, excellent staff, beautiful ship

Celebrity Soltice sailing
cruise to nowhere - 11/2008
The Celebrity Soltice is a classy lady
On Promenade Deck the shops on the Boulevard are like being in shops at a 5 Star hotels. Very impressive. The Wine Cellar (very nice), The Fortunes Casino, there was Roulette, Craps, Poker tables,(Texas Hold'em, Black Jack, Caribbean Poker, 3 Card Poker) and the minimum was $5.00 and $10.00 depending on the table, as well as slot machines from .01 to $5.00. Martini Bar (not as impressive as I thought it would be) Iced over bar area .
The Tuscan Grill - lovely open atmosphere overlooking the stern of the ship. Murano's small, intimate atmosphere, very nicely appointed. Before arriving at either of the these restaurants is the charming Ensemble lounge/bar. Very nicely appointed in creams and purple, very regal. The foyer you pass thru to the Ensemble lounge was very dark with floral wallpaper and the tiles in the floor actually had ants traveling towards the floral arrangements on the wall. (no not real ants) Micheals Club very European, quiet and intimate.
Also on Entertainment Deck is the Art Gallery, very impressive. Everywhere on this deck the vases and art pieces were displayed. More shops.
Yes, it is truly the real thing, green grass. Area wasn't really being used other than people taking off there shoes and walking on the grass.
Adjacent to the Lawn Club is the Hot Glass Show.
I appreciate the opportunity to have sailed on the Soltice. All in all the ship is really quite lovely, but for me it was not a WOW! In talking with other agents onboard from all over the U.S., as well as Canada and Europe, the consensus was the same.
Pros: Very easy to get around. No hidden corners.
Cons: Boarding the steep incline to the ship.

Millennium
Eastern Caribbean - 2/2007
Still at the top of their game for service.
Millennium still has the best specialty dinning I've had on any cruise ship. However, they could use a few new itineraries. It's the same old destinations out of Ft. Lauderdale year after year. The ship is also showing some wear and tear, such as a few missing tiles around the pool, etc. Celebrity's service to their passengers is alway the best, as is the entertainment night after night.
Pros: Best specialty dinning and service in all categories
Cons: Itineraries.

Galaxy Panama Canal
- 1/2005
I was fortunate enough to sail on the Galaxy to the Panama Canal. This was a 12 night cruise with stops in Jamaica, Mexico, Grand Cayman Costa Rica and the beautiful Panama Canal.
This was not my first cruise, so as an experienced cruiser I was expecting a lot. And I got it. She was marvelous. Her staterooms were spotless as well as all the public areas. The staff was beyond good. The ratio is about 2 to 1 and it showed.
The food was very French, which I enjoyed. The shows in the evenings were above standard.
When I sailed on her she was due for refurbishing but it was hard to complain about minor problems. The crew kept the ship spotless and were so attentive to your every need.
I have since sailed on two other Celebrity ships but the Galaxy will always be my favorite.

Around Cape Horn on Celebrity's Infinity
- /
Bigger ships ride the waves better in the rough seas around Cape Horn at the tip of South America. Celebrity gives great value for higher end cruising.
We traveled around Cape Horn on Infinity which was one of the larger ships sailing in this destination. A Millennium-class vessel at 91,000 tons she was triple the size of another ship that was shadowing us (that I'd sailed on also in Scandinavia--Norwegian Crown; a nice little but older ship). You could tell that the Crown was having a rougher time in those waters: her bow would disappear below the crest of the waves and reappear high above the crest. But then she didn't have the modern stabilizers that most ships of the last 10 years or so have.
On the other hand, our Infinity was riding the waves with only nominal "rocking & rolling" ...it was noticeable, we'd walk in the usual zig zag fashion but I saw no one having trouble with it. After seeing the movies with old sailing ships struggling through these infamous waters, I think I would have been disappointed if we got to Cape Horn and had it smooth as glass!
Infinity is a wonderful ship with fewer than 2000 people on board, she's about 25% larger than ships that carry 30% more people. For people that want a step up, or for high end cruisers who want 90% the cruise value of the top end (in my opinion) for 50% the cost, Celebrity is an incredible value.
Pros: Stable, smooth cruising with excellent features.
Cons: If you like intimate and small; it's nearly intimate but certainly not small.

The most important thing on all cruise ships is the food and Celebrity's Solstice did not disappoint
- /
I was extremely impressed by the dining experience in the main dining room. There is no doubt that Celebrity has raised the bar when it comes to dining in the elegant Grand Epernay Dining Room.
The choice and variety of entree selections were excellent and having dined in the main dining venue, five nights out of the seven night cruise; there were virtually no duplications of entrees.
The presentation of the food was beautiful, creative and most importantly hot and delicious. The staff was attentive, friendly and anxious to please.
I had the opportunity to dine in the beautiful Tuscan Grill. The Tuscan Grill is one of the most beautifully decorated dining rooms and upon entering you get the feeling you are in Tuscany! The specialty restaurants do pride themselves on trying to be as authentic in menu selection. Although I ordered a filet mignon, it was served on a bed of spinach with specialty potatoes. I also ordered a side dish of pasta bouglouiaze with Kobe meatballs. No Italian meal would be complete without hot, home made bread. I started the meal with a delicious fresh mozzarella and caprice salad. To finish, I ordered my favorite dessert, Tiramisu. It was good, but not special.
The Silk Harvest Restaurant, which features Asian decor and menu, was a nice evening but did not offer any original selections to make it an outstanding evening to remember. I did order sea bass and the presentation of the platter was beautiful, but disappointing to the pallet.
Both restaurants require advance reservations as they are popular and in demand by the guests. Overbooking can be an issue as this may cause less than attentive service.
The food in the Ocean View Cafe was delicious, fresh and better variety than other ships I have sailed on. The dishes were replenished continually. The layout of the Ocean view cafe is one of the best designed on any ship both for table layout and food stations. The salad bar was refreshed constantly as well as the pasta station. Staff was attentive and polite.

Celebrity Century
Western Caribbean - 2/2010
Over all I had a pleasent experience on the ship, the food for the most part was great and the entertainment was very good. They can make a few improvments. Small ship, not as grand as some of the larger vessles.
I went on a cruise with the Celebrity Century from Feb 6th -11th 2010. I stayed in an inside stateroom on the 8th floor. I have been on several other cruises and my overall impression of this ship and the cruise was that it was very good and enjoyable but they could make several improvements. I'm 26-years-old and already my husband and I are planning our next cruise probably with Royal Caribbean, Cunard or Carnival.
The Century sink in the bathroom was very shallow; when you turn on the tap to a certain pressure, the water overflows the tiny sink all over the counter and the floor.
The stateroom attendants were very polite and friendly always asking us how our day was and even remembering my husband by name. They promptly cleaned our room and replaced our towels, water and ice.
It was an excellent touch to give the guests a glass of champagne upon entering the ship and entering the theater on formal night. It was also nice to have complimentary Celebrity tote bags in each stateroom as it made a nice souvenir.
The lunch buffet was good. I liked that they offered a variety of cultural foods. Dinner in the Grand restaurant was pleasant; our waiter, Xavier, and our assistant waitress, Marsha, were exceptional and were extremely accommodating when I made small changes to the menu options.
When we arrived the first day, the deck chairs were dusty and stained. It would have been a good idea if they cleaned them off. I had to clean one myself in order to sit on it. Since it is a smaller ship, there are a lot of people on the deck in the days and it is a bit crowded for space and chairs. They should have also had more deck chairs with the cushion covering as some of the deck chairs were warped making it uncomfortable to sit on. On some other ships I have been on, they had a nice movie screen on the upper deck resembling a drive-in and it was nice to sit out and watch movies. The Century had a small theater that played the same movie twice a day. I thought that they could have played more of a variety of movies.
The deck area was rather deserted in the nights. There was not much going on out there even when the weather was great.
The entertainment was fantastic. The shows were very enjoyable and the entertainers were great. They did a show called "A Touch of Broadway" which was very good. the comedian was great, and the acrobats were very good.
The DJ at the disco played the same music over and over again each night and the bands were okay but performed very old music. For the younger people who made it to the club at night, it would have been nice to hear some up-to-date more popular music.
They did not provide irons, and there was no laundry facility where you could iron your clothes. They charged to iron your shirt for you. It wasnÂ’t much but I think an iron is standard in most hotels these days free of charge.
They could have provided more variety in the onboard activities but they did have a cooking show competition between the chefs where they set up full kitchens on the stage in the theater which I thought was entertaining.
The people who handled our luggage did a good job getting it to our room promptly but they should have taken more care delivering the right luggage to the right room as one of our bags was placed at the wrong room and we had to go look for it. They should have taken more care with the bag as one of our cases was damaged.
I thought that, although lunch and dinner were good, breakfast was not that great. I found the food to be very bland, the same thing every day cooked poorly.
The pizza was horrible. The dough was hard, not crisp, but tough and chewy and not very tasty. On top of that, it closed at 1:00a.m. where many ships have the pizzeria open 24 hours. In fact, everything seemed to close early on this ship including the pools and hot tubs.
The ship also had these metal raised portions in the floor that I think should be covered with carpet. Many people wear flip flops or sandals and, if you miss that, you could do serious damage to your feet. Also there are ramp portions in the hallway that are covered in carpet so you can not distinguish where they are from the rest of the hallway and I, along with the rest of my party, tripped up these ramps several times in the hallway.
While I was there, a few more stations were added to the TV but only for people who were apart of the Captain's Club. I think all guests could have used more stations in their rooms.
Overall, it was a good experience. I like going above and beyond on my vacations and making them as luxurious as possible before I return to reality, thus I prefer the larger ships that are more grand than the Century is. The older people aboard prefer the smaller ship as they told me it was easier for them to get around. But it seemed that the ship being smaller made the effects of the wind and the choppy water seem magnified and there were a lot of seasick people, including myself, for an entire night and the entire next day.
I would recommend this ship to others. Overall, it was good and every cruise line or ship can have its pros and cons. Hope this review helps.
Happy sailing everyone!
Pros: Great food, great shows
Cons: dirty deck chairs, pizza bar was horrible, breakfast could use improvment

Century Review
Scandinavia - 6/2006
An excellent cruise line with stellar service. An incredible itinerary on this 12-day Baltic Cruise. I wouldnÂ’t hesitate to use Celebrity, and the Century, again!
Pros: The itinerary was spectacular; the service was stellar.
Cons: Limited hours for the Islands cafe; pedestrian activities onboard.

Century revitalized !
Europe - 6/2006
Celebrity is the cruise line we keep going back to (5 cruises) because the staff are attentive and the facilities are great - Century is now even better, and well up to the standard one would expect of a 5-star cruise line. We will be back!
Pros: Just out of refit, good staff, great ice bar
Cons: None, Century is now even better.
